Application attempt for Cs adsorbent of the Au nanoparticle fabricated by solution plasma method

no journal, ,

We focus on the Au nanoparticle, which is fabricated by solution plasma method, as the adsorbent with high density and high efficiency of Cs$$^{+}$$ in solution. To remove the Cs from the solution, we attempt two methods, which are the Cs adsorption on the Au nanoparticle surface and the interaction between the Cs and the L-cysteine on Au nanoparticle. Judging from the results of SR-XPS for the sample at the latter method, we suggest the interaction between the Cs and the COOH group of L-cysteine on Au nanoparticle.

XAFS analysis of some uranium oxides

no journal, ,

XAFS measurements of some uranium oxides were performed in the beamline which can use nuclear materials. In the XANES analysis, energetic shift was clearly observed in white lines of UO$$_{3}$$, UO$$_{2.00}$$ and UCl$$_{3}$$. Some important features such as the nearest U-O distance and ordering of U-U interaction for each samples were also confirmed by Fourier transformed R-space analyses. These results show that XAFS analysis using uranium L$$_3$$ edge can use research studies in valence and local structure of debris samples.

We have found that Cs can be largely removed from weathered biotite (WB) in Fukushima by low-pressure heating treatment with some alkaline salts, but the detail of the mechanism is still unclear. We analyze compositional and structural change of WB using XRF, XRD, TEM, and NEXAFS. NaCl-CaCl$$_{2}$$ mixed salt and WB were mixed in a weight ratio of 1/1 and heated in a low-pressure condition. Excess salt in the sample was removed by rinsing with distilled water. Cs/Si ratio decreased to 11% and 0 % by the treatment at 600$$^{circ}$$C and 700$$^{circ}$$C, respectively. We found decrease of K with Cs. Meanwhile, Ca and Cl increased with temperature. XRD analysis clarified that new peaks appeared above 500$$^{circ}$$C and peaks of WB disappeared at 700$$^{circ}$$C. TEM analysis clarified that augite and wadalite were dominant products after the heating treatment. NEXAFS analysis clarified that Ca and Cl have different chemical bonding depending on atmospheric and low pressures. Based on these results, we propose Cs free mineralization for decontamination of soil in Fukushima.

X-ray beamline optics for atomic pair-distribution function experiments

Yoneda, Yasuhiro; Ohara, Koji*

no journal, ,

Atomic pair-distribution function (PDF) is one of the local structure analysis techniques. In SPring-8, one can be performed PDF measurements at bending magnet beamlines owing to its high critical energy. We performed a round robin test by using two bending magnet beamlines for PDF analysis. We concluded that the same data sets can be obtained from both beamlines for the conventional local structure analysis. On the other hand, the results of Rietveld analysis are different owing to the resolution of the incident X-ray beam.
